Who knows what the hell is going to happen 10 days from now. Right now at this moment my leg doesn't hurt I took the last four days off to really get the healing process going. The injured area is really responding to heat very well. I pretend that the extra blood to the damaged area is full of nanobots rapidly repairing the carnage from the fall. Whatever it takes right? All I can do, all I have right now is the ability to stay positive.
I worked out today on the elliptical trainer. I covered about 14 miles in 2:05. At least that's what the thing said. It didn't really feel like I was going all that fast. Maybe that's a good sign. Three more days on the elliptical for an hour to an hour and a half. Then on the fifth day I'm going to try a test run of around 10 miles to see how its going to hold up to all that pounding. Then I'll make my final decision as to whether or not I want to run for it all or just for fun. My entry fee was comped this year so I at least owe it to Kirkdog to show up and give it a try.
The family and I ate lunch today at a Chinese buffet. After we were all done eating. The ticket was brought to us along with the fortune cookies. usually I grab mine first but today I let everyone go before me. We were trying to figure out how we were going to come up with the correct numbers for the lottery. We were just waiting to see what my numbers were. So I grabbed the last cookie on the plate. I broke it open. Ate my cookie first as I believe its bad luck to read your fortune before you eat the cookie. Then I read my fortune. Usually it says something about happiness or good fortune you know the same ol'crap that you get at every Chinese restaurant in the world. This time it was different though. This time mine read. "NO OBSTACLES WILL STAND IN YOUR WAY THIS COMING WEEK." Wow! What an appropriate fortune for having the misfortune of injuring myself last week. As if the competition this year wasn't going to be obstacle enough right?
I've seen some strange things in the world of athletic competition. Though I doubt that I have seen a runner show up to a race 50% and win the whole shootin match. To win one day would be awesome but to be the overall winner after the three days that would be a miracle. An act of god if you will. Things happen for a reason. Yeah I know that but with me its always bad. Well mostly bad. There are some good things that have happened in my life that I'm very thankful for. Still I do seem to have a good run of bad luck going here. Maybe just maybe what I need IS a miracle to turn things around.
So for now I've decided to hold on to that fortune from the restaurant. Put it in my pocket and just before the start of the first day and the second and the third. I'm going to read it and then just believe that for once if I want something bad enough then I'm going to have to throw caution to the wind. Throw all the cares of my life out the window. Play the hand that god dealt me and run as if the devil himself was chasing me. Believing that NOTHING will stand in my way.
