Gearing Up to Wind Down!

Its been a couple of weeks since I last blogged. Mostly I've just been doing a lot of catching up with everyone else's blogs. Not a lot has been happening out there. As we get further into the this fall season I've noticed that everyone is finishing their years up with local races or have wound down completely. Some opting for rest and recovery and others eagerly awaiting next season with the hopes of improving on this years performances. For me though I still have some work to take care of before I can relax. A little matter of a race called Sunmart. I've decided to take on the 50km even though I really wanted to do the 50miler there. The decision was made to do the 50km based on the fact that. I feel like I didn't really have the endurance right now to carry myself through 50 miles of running at the pace I wanted to run. After crunching all the numbers and comparing them to the goals I'd layed out for myself I felt that the 50km was a logical choice at this time. Maybe next year I'll give the 50miler a shot or maybe not. I have no idea what the hell I'm going to be doing next year and I'm trying not to think about it. I have some stuff planned and posted on my blog but we all know that nothing is set in stone. I'm still focused on Sunmart and its taking all the mental reserve I have left for me to be able to do that. In seasons past I'd have gained 10 extra pounds at this point. The funny thing is that my body knows that and its trying to put it on while I'm trying to keep it off. Physically I feel fine but mentally I'm drained. The one thing I know for sure is that after Sunmart I am definitely going to take a long break. Catch up on a lot of sleep and possibly restructure my plans and goals for next season. I'd like to not race any during the winter months as we've had a warm fall so far and I'm not looking forward to having to train in the cold. Take it easy through mid January then start my build up towards 3 days of Syllamo. After Syllamo who knows? I promised a friend I'd do Rockin K this year. Its just hard to figure anything out with doing 3 days. Its kind of a weird race in a sense that it falls on a bad time during the spring season. I find myself having to decide whether or not to do three individual events in the spring or just that one and another in late spring. That's the same dilemma I have with the Flatrock 50km. There are so many races that I'd like to do in the fall but with my commitment to get my 10 finishes at the Rock in. I'm stuck between a Rock and well a ROCK!
Now everyone seems to be doing a year in review. What they did. What goals they were able to accomplish, P.R.s etc. So just to get everyone up to speed this is my year in review. I'm not going to go into what my goals were. Or how I felt. Or what happened. I'll just give you all the straight meat.

Now there was some good and bad to this year and even though I had some success. I'm not particularly happy with the late spring and summer I had. So definitely I have some stuff to work on for next season. The first thing being to lighten the hell up. I'm way too serious about this shit. I can't believe how wrapped up I allowed myself to get this year. Next season there's going to be a lot more goofing off. Man I just run better when I don't give a shit. I can have goals and train hard like everyone else but I can also have fun while doing it.

This week in review:

back up to 60 - 70 miles per week. I thought maybe 80 would be good but then the whole fun factor started to come in to play again and I said screw it.

Sat - 6 miles easy trails 47 mins

Sun - 9.5 miles tempo on trails 1:08:23

Mon - 5 miles speed work 4 x 1200 in 3:45's with 1/4 recovery between each set. 1 mile w/u.

Tue - 3 miles easy.

Wed - Tempo 3-4 hrs on trail. Actual 27 miles in 3:25:17 legs started to give out on last loop and
took a pretty good fall but recovered well.

Thu - Rest Day.

Fri - 8 miles easy on trail. 1:00:00.
