After the race finished up. The family and I headed out to the reservation for a pow wow. We hadn't been to one in awhile and I forgot how much fun it was to sit and watch everyone perform their dances in their traditional clothes to the beat of a steady drum. We must of sat there for about four hours watching all the different catagories. I took some pretty cool pics some of which I posted above.
This last week it was back to training with purpose or so I thought. Turns out that it wasn't all that eventful. I only went running three times. Sunday was an easy 10 which took me like 2 hrs and 15 minutes to complete. Reason being I was the only one who volunteered to unflag the course the day after the race. Willy decided to take the day off as he was still pretty wiped out from breaking 100 miles at the FANS 24 hr race up in Minnesota the weekend before. No problem though I got it taken care of. After that I decided to take a couple of days of myself. Wednesday I went out and did a hard 25 miles on the bike in the rain. Which resulted in me breaking down my complete drivetrain to clean and relube. It probably would've been O.K. but it was a little overdue from the last time. Thursday was busy. I took the day off from work. In the morning I went out a ran a hard ten in the humidity out at the governors mansion and then came home and got all decked out in my St. Louis Cardinals attire only to show up at the game in K.C. to watch my boys have there asses handed to 'em. It happens everytime I go watch them play there. I don't know why I thought this time would be any different.
Yesterday was cool my son and I, well mainly me thought it would be neat to go on a low budget camping trip and by low budget I mean the backyard. He was totally into it though so we set up the tent and broke out the lawn chairs and had ourselves a good time. A couple of the pictures above is from our adventure. The boy was wired. Today. Well today was make up day for all the lack of running I did this week. I went out to Lake Clinton around 11:30 am just when it was getting nice and steamy out and started my death march. I'd forgotten that Kansas has these small pockets of tropical climates scattered throughout the state in the summertime. Anyway 22 miles and three hours and 25 minutes later I finally managed to drag my sweaty nasty carcus off the trail. I would have been done sooner but I wanted to see if it was humanly possible to run slower than I could walk a mile. The answer. Yes!!! I can. Clocking a last mile time in; wait for it. An Amazing 18:49 go figure. Thats what I get for brinning only two gels as my only source of calories with me on the run. I think for next weeks long run I'm going to scout out some gravel rds. and enlist my wife as a crew. Just run for a good 30 to 35 miles nice and easy.
Well if you've read all of this blog entry to this point then you have more paitience than I do but thanks for reading anyway. Next time I'll just keep it short and sweet.
